What is Five Winds (Aberdeen)

Five Winds (Aberdeen) is a branch of the Five Winds School of Tai Chi Chuan. The main School is based in Edinburgh and its Principal Instructor is Sifu Ian Cameron. Sifu Cameron is recognised as one of the foremost exponents of Wudang Style Tai Chi Chuan in Europe. Mike Adam, Brian Allan, Ian Carolan, Helen Clark, Nicky Gavin, Jim Walker and Don Wells are certificated instructors for the Aberdeen branch and have, between them, more than one hundred years of study in the Art.

Purpose and Aims

Our main purpose in holding classes is to make our own practice better. By instructing others we learn more ourselves. This is called "emptying the cup". By making Tai Chi Chuan available to more people in and around the Aberdeen area, we hope to have a greater pool of practitioners working towards improving their knowledge and practice of the Art. The instructors have seen how their own health has benefited from their practice of Tai Chi and they are keen to share this with others. Five Winds (Aberdeen) aims to provide low cost classes with high quality instruction. To this end the instructors will give their time free. Banks o' Dee Sports Centre is a non profit making organisation which is in accord with the requirements of this class. Any surplus raised from the attendance fee will be used to encourage Tai Chi awareness for all groups in the Aberdeen area and to raise the standard of practice overall.

Instructors

Jim Walker took up Tai Chi over twenty years ago when Bob Carlyle was teaching in Aberdeen. Brian Allan became a student of Jim in 1995 and after a year or so of practice was introduced to Ian Cameron's class in Edinburgh. Brian is now a student of Sifu Cameron and has been teaching since 1998. Ian Carolan has been a student of Sifu Cameron since 1990. Helen Clark and Mike Adam take on the responsibility of looking after the needs of beginners at the Banks o' Dee. Don Wells and Nicky Gavin are regulars and share their considerable experience with those who attend.
